Frances Meyers

It is with regret and the deepest respect we note the passing of Frances Ruth Meyers. Frances was born to Abe and Yetta in Newark, New Jersey in 1931, along with fraternal twin Gloria. Older brother Milton greeted them. Frances schooled in Newark, then Montclair College. She then took work as a bookkeeper in the dietary department of a hospital in Newark.

While relaxing in Toms River on the family boat Fran met Leo. They dated, fell in love and were married in 1952. They remained married for over 70 years, until Fran’s passing. Many vibrant and satisfying events filled their lives; everyone thought them a lively couple.

Fran and Leo started a family in Leo’s home town of Manasquan, where his family ran a Five and Dime store. They welcomed sons Fred and Elliot, of whom Fran was very proud. Fran was active in the family business. She later returned to school at Monmouth College, earning her teaching degree. Fran greatly enjoyed her time teaching art to grade schoolers. Fran also served on the Manasquan Board of Education, along with her friend Eleanor. Together they greatly improved the direction of Manasquan schools, enjoying many nights of negotiation and meetings.

She went on to work for Temple Beth El, where she served as facility administrator and congregational coordinator. Fran had many close friends at Beth El, notably Gilda and Mitch. Roz and Seymour completed the group. Later she worked in a physician’s office as a bookkeeper and receptionist.

Fran enjoyed travel to Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean and most of the USA. She also relished her pool workouts, Mah Jong and lunching. Fran’s activities became greatly reduced due to infirmity, in time she was unable to continue them. She always enjoyed her friends and family. Elliot was a great help and comfort to Fran as her health failed, as was family friend Lynn, Gilda and Mitch’s daughter.

Please join us in spirit to wish Fran well and farewell as she sails off into the unknowable. And spare a kind thought for Leo, her surviving spouse.
