Gail Newman

Gail Sondra Newman, age 86, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 of natural causes. She was born on March 13, 1939, in New York to Seymour and Matilda (née Jacobs) Tell. Gail was an elementary school teacher, nursery school teacher, and mentor to persons with intellectual disabilities.

Gail was predeceased by her sister Amy Tell; brother William Tell; and her parents Seymour and Matilda Tell.

Gail is survived by her husband of 64 years James Newman, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey; son Rich Newman, of North Bethesda, Maryland; son Stuart Newman and his wife Karen, of Oakhurst, New Jersey; four grandchildren: Zack Newman, Ben Newman, Brandon Newman, and Wesley Newman; brother David Tell and his wife Carrie, of Hopewell Junction, New York.

A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am on January 6, 2026 at Monmouth Reform Temple, 332 Hance Avenue, Tinton Falls, New Jersey, 07724 immediately followed by a committal service at 11:30 am at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, New Jersey, 07095. Following the service at the cemetery, the family invites attendees to gather and share memories of Gail’s life at Arbor Terrace, 864 Shrewsbury Avenue, Tinton Falls, New Jersey 07724.

Shiva will be observed at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living, 864 Shrewsbury Avenue, Tinton Falls, New Jersey 07724 on Wednesday from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gail's memory may be made to Young Adult Institute, 220 East 42nd Street, 8th Floor, New York, New York, 10017 and /or the American Cancer Society.
