Hermine was a loving wife to Arthur for 69 years, devoted Mother to Donnie, Mark, Ross and Kenny, Grandmother to Arielle, Hillary, Emily, Evan, Becca, Aydan, Zeke, Owen, Connor, and Samantha as well as Great Grandmother to Oliver.
As a young woman, she pursued her love of dance by attending Performing Arts High School for ballet, followed by dental school at Brooklyn College. After college, she pursued a career in fashion where she met her future husband Arthur. After focusing on raising her 4 rambunctious boys, she rejoined the workforce and became a licensed stockbroker working closely with Arthur in his brokerage firm. Years later, Hermine and Arthur grew a fledgling gift shop into a very successful retail business and one of the largest collectible catalog publication businesses in the country.
Hermine was passionate about her family, her business, and also travel. She loved hosting and preparing extravagant holiday meals and putting on dinner parties for family and friends. She shared her love and skills of cooking with her children and in later years enjoyed supervising their collaborative efforts in the kitchen. Hermine’s love of adventure inspired trips she and Arthur took across the globe on land and sea, including travels to Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, South America and all over the Caribbean. Over the years, she amassed an extensive collection of hand-crafted remembrances from their travels. In particular, she loved cruising and brought along her grandchildren and on a few very special occasions the entire family.
She also believed strongly in the importance of giving back and volunteered her time to support various causes. As young parents, Hermine and Arthur ran a local chapter of the Fresh Air Fund, where they organized local families who hosted inner city children offering a respite from city living. She spent several years organizing fund raisers for the Ronald McDonald House and in later years led a local chapter of Brandeis at Westlake in support of cancer research.
Hermine lived a vibrant and elegant life full of adventure and surrounded by family. She was high spirited, determined and successful at everything she sought to do, and of strong opinions…including politics. She is forever loved, will be sorely missed and not be forgotten.
She is predeceased by her brother George and survived by her sister Linda and her sister Margie who was by her side comforting her until her last breath.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on Sunday at 3:00, July 27th at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels 2130 Highway 35, Ocean, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Brandeis National Committee and Susan G Komen, you can follow the links below to donate.
