Howard I. Wiener

Howard I. Wiener – beloved, husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend to many passed away peacefully at home on Monday 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and caregiver. He was 88 years old. He was born in Jersey City, NJ January 13, 1935 to Mildred and David Wiener. His family moved to Belmar from Jersey City and Howard graduated from Asbury Park High School. Howard served as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne for 2 ½ years. Upon completion of his service he joined the family business of children’s shoe store Howard Lyn Shoes in Asbury Park, NJ, also attending Monmouth Junior college (now Monmouth University). Howard married Eva (nee Safier) in 1961 and the lived in Long Branch, NJ where their daughter Amy was born in 1964. They moved to Ocean Township in 1966 just before the birth of their daughter Judy in 1966. Howard Lyn Shoes moved to Ocean Township in the 1970’s and remained there until it closed in 1984. Howard went to work at Fort Monmouth as a contract specialist until his retirement. Howard was very dedicated to former Temple Beth Torah serving as president from 1983 – 1985, as well as Jewish War Veterans Post #125 and was involved in many aspects of the post. Howard proudly became known as POP after the birth of his to wonderful grandchildren Alex and Carly Solomon. Howard was predeceased by his parents and his sister Lynne Wiener. Howard is survived by his wife of 62 years Eva, daughter Amy, daughter Judy and her husband Rob, his grandson Alex and his wife Madison, his granddaughter Carly and her boyfriend Brendan Convery, along with many, many, relatives and devoted friends. Funeral services to be held 10am Wednesday February 15,2023 at Congregation Torat El 301 Monmouth Road Oakhurst, NJ. Shiva will be observed at Eva’s home until Monday evening. Donations in Howard’s memory may be made to Congregation Torat El or charity of choice.
