After 89 years and 25 days on earth, Judith Alexander Lipton said “enough” and asked to take her complaints directly to the manager. She leaves behind a gaping void along with her daughters, Donna Lipton (Cathy Hanville) and Stephanie Levine (Jeffery Levine), and grandchildren Shelby and Adam Levine. She was predeceased by her husband of more than fifty years, David Lipton, in 2018.
Judy was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by her parents Alfred and Belle with her brother Franklin. She always stayed true to her Brooklyn roots and remained lifelong friends with a group of women she originally met in school at thirteen years old (Marcia, Barbara, Lorraine, Norma and Ara).
Judy and family moved to Union, NJ in the 1970s where she served for years as President of the local chapter of The National Council of Jewish Women. She was also long employed as a legal secretary before starting her own business buying and selling antiques and collectables. Though notably technology challenged—facing heroic struggles with VCR programming and using an automatic coffee maker—Judy taught herself how to upload text and images and became an Ebay superuser.
Later in life, Judy and David moved to the Lakeridge community in Toms River, NJ where Judy joined the women’s club, the men’s club, the Jewish club, the Italian club, the Red Hats and probably a few more sundry others just to be sure she had enough on her calendar while also attending every board meeting and regularly writing for the community paper.
She loved hot weather, and Columbo, and vegetable egg foo young, Joy (the perfume), tuna fish sandwiches, cats, and show tunes. The characteristics that most defined Judy were her relentless social drive and her incredible sense of humor. She spent every moment she could talking and laughing.
We’d like to think that she’s catching up with David and maybe sharing a good laugh with that manager right now.
