Loretta Katz of Tinton Falls, NJ, passed away peacefully Wednesday Feb. 7, 2024. Born Brooklyn, NY Loretta married Ira Katz in 1955. Ira’s pursuit of education took them to Georgia and Maryland and they eventually settled in New Jersey. Along the way they were blessed with three children, Andrew, Barbara, and Eric. Loretta adored Ira and her life with him and they were married 42 years. Lory was always involved in the community and the children’s schools and extracurricular activities. Once they grew older, she took a volunteer position at Monmouth Medical Center where she was eventually asked to be the coordinator of the Muscular Dystrophy program. She was recognized by the Jerry Lewis Foundation for her work there and she truly loved her job. After retirement, she volunteered for HABcore, an organization that helps house homeless people.
Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ira Katz, PhD.
She is survived by her children, Andrew Katz and his wife, Deborah, Barbara Katz, and Eric Katz and his wife, Maria; her grandchildren, Alexander Katz, Jason Katz, Cindy Brown, Douglas Katz, and Ian Katz; two brothers, Leonard Berman and his wife Toby, and Alan Berman and his wife, Sherry.
Services will be held Sunday at Bloomfield Cooper, 2130 Hwy 35, Ocean Township, NJ 07712. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
