Dr. Mark Charles Newman passed away on August 19, 2025, after 75 years spent giving to his family, caring for his patients, playing bogey golf with the occasional birdie, sinking his feet into the sand, and making everyone around him laugh.
A son of New Jersey, he was born on October 11, 1949, in Long Branch to Hy and Martha Newman. He was raised in Tinton Falls. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Ohio University, he returned to attend medical school at the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry. He settled in Ocean Township where he shared his life with his wife Nancy for 52 years. He practiced internal medicine for more than 30 years and was beloved by countless patients, not only for his expertise, but also thoughtful care and good humor.
He was always available for his patients – even if it meant showing up to the hospital with a medical coat covering his swimsuit. For years he was a fixture at Monmouth Medical Center and knew absolutely everyone – the doctors, nurses, custodians, and security guards. In retirement, Mark and Nancy followed the sun to Boynton Beach, Florida during the Jersey winter. Every summer he returned north to spend time with his grandkids. He loved watching them surf, figure skate, and play soccer. He is survived by his indefatigable wife Nancy, sons Harris (wife Betsy and children Abe, Luke, and Charlotte) and Ryan (fiancée Katie), brother Gary (wife Sandy and daughter Jennifer) and sister Fran (husband David and son Jake).
He will be universally missed, from Hollywood Golf Club to Monmouth Medical Center to Takanassee Beach Club to the Deal Casino to Hunters Run. While shorter than everyone would have hoped, he had a good run.
Donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the Parker Family Health Center in Red Bank https://www.parkerfamilyhealthcenter.org.
