Born in Plainfield, Bobby was raised in Deal. After his own father’s passing in 1980, Bobby owned and operated Max’s for the past 33 years. 2013 marks 85 years that Max’s Famous Hot Dogs has served the Jersey Shore and the community of Long Branch and Bobby was responsible for moving Max’s from the Long Branch boardwalk to its current location on Ocean Avenue. Bobby took great pride and pleasure in seeing the restaurant full and loved schmoozing with loyal customers. He loved running the business so much that he rarely had time for other hobbies. However, he loved the race track, especially Monmouth Park, a passion which he shared with Mrs. Max and his father. Bobby was both humbled and proud when a group of doctors named one of their race horses after his restaurant. A lover of good food and spirits, he was a frequent patron of Tuzzio’s and Richard’s Deli and enjoyed a deep friendship with the Wenning family of Long Branch.
Bobby is predeceased by his parents Milfred and Alice Maybaum. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years Madeline Levy Maybaum, his mother in law Celia “Mrs. Max” Maybaum, 94, of Deal, his two loving daughters and their husbands, Michele Maybaum-Harris and Ivan Harris of Middletown, and Jennifer Maybaum and Jacob Moschberger of Tinton Falls. With love and a renewed sense of pride, the family will continue Bobby’s great legacy that is Max’s Hot Dogs. Bobby also leaves behind his friend and brother-in-law Owen Levy and his wife Elaine of East Brunswick, his cousin Richard Maybaum and his wife Kathy of Verona, his cousin Judy Kirk of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and last but not least his four legged friends Fate, Shayna, Guinness and Barney.
Chapel services will be held Sunday, June 30th at 11 a.m. at Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels in Ocean Township followed by internment at Monmouth Fields, West Long Branch. The family will be receiving friends and family at Max’s on Ocean Avenue in Long Branch after the internment. Donations can be made to “Wag On In” of Oakhurst and the S.P.C.A. of Monmouth County. Done and done.
