Born in Newark, NJ on June 12, 1922, he moved to the Jersey Shore in the 1960's.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Ida, siblings Evelyn, Jack, and Irv. Sy is survived by daughters Sari Infield (Peter), Heidi Spivack Messaoud (Djamel), grandson Zachariah, sister-in-law Ruth, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Sy was a veteran of the Army Air Force during WWII. He proudly wore his veteran's cap daily and loved to tell stories of his days in service.
Following his honorable discharge, Sy had several occupations as owner of the Vagabond Bar in Newark, homebuilder in Freehold, and bagel maker in Newark. He was a long time Mason and member of the Bakers Union.
His greatest love was family and friends. Besides loving family, Sy leaves behind a wide circle of friends and neighbors. From inner circle of Sonny (deceased), Genie, Maya and Trudy & Lou (deceased)... to neighbors Earl & Judy and Bob & Dana, the crew at the Hungry Hobo, and nurses at Jersey Shore Medical Cardiac Rehab program.
Sy was an avid skier, read two newspapers daily, kept current on political issues and loved to discuss opinions on current events. He had a voracious will to live, surviving many medical procedures over his lifetime. Each setback only gave him more determination to fight in rehab to regain as much mobility as he could.
We used to tease Sy that he was like a cat with 9 lives! Sadly, we didn't know this last one was his 9th.
Sy was buried with full Military Honors, next to his beloved wife Ida, in a graveside service at Beth David Cemetery in Kenilworth, NJ on August 30, 2018. Bloomfield-Cooper, Ocean, took care of arrangements beautifully.
We will love and miss you forever and always...
Rest in eternal peace, our beloved Sy.
