A child of Long Branch, Sondra was born on December 13, 1941 to Emanuel Gold z”l and Libby Gold z”l. Her lifelong love of the beach and the ocean can be traced back to growing up in a seaside community.
In High School, Sondra became friends with Ed Markman, a fellow student, who asked her out in the summer of 1957. On that first date, they went to see Around the World in 80 Days, and it led to many more. They married in 1963, and true to that first date, they spent their lives traveling the world visiting over 100 countries together. In addition to this love of travel, Sondra was an educator who spent 43 years teaching students, training teachers, and serving as a school district administrator.
In addition to Ed, Sondra is survived by her son Art Markman and his wife Leora Orent, sister Arline Mollen and her husband Goodie, and grandchildren Lucas Markman, ‘Eylam Orent Anidjar, Niv Orent Anidjar, and Steven Markman. In addition to her parents, Sondra was predeceased by her son Jeremy Markman z”l.
