Darrell Eugene Parsons

Darrell E. Parsons, 68, of Rock Creek went to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 24, 2015. Darrell was born in Republic, WV to the late Clemon Parsons and Haley Drennen Parsons. The oldest of eight, he was a 1965 Marsh Fork High School graduate, where he played football and ran track. In July,1965, he joined the US Army and served his country in Vietnam. Darrell was employed with Armco Steel, continued with Peabody Coal and then Performance Coal. He retired in 1999, after 31 years as a coal miner. He loved to bowl, to watch WVU and Carolina Panther football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching westerns, listening to bluegrass and gospel music. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Parsons; brother, Norman Parsons; mother and father-in-law, Laura and Bert Combs; brother-in-law, Danny Dillon; and sisters-in-law, Dedra ans Lula Parsons. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn Parsons of Rock Creek; children, Paula Parsons of Hickory, NC, Chris Parsons and wife, Kim of Beckley, Laura Fitzwater and fiancé, Brian of Dorothy; 12 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
