

Lillydale- Roy Trent, 97, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Beckley. He was born October 6, 1917 in War Eagle, WV to the late Leonard and Viola Bailey Trent. Mr. Trent was a proud veteran of the US Air Force, having served in the 50th Troop Carrier Wing during WWII. He was the owner and operator of Trent’s Market in Lillydale for many years. He loved to sing gospel songs and wrote several songs about his Lord. He was a member of the Pentecostal House Of Prayer. He enjoyed playing golf and loved working in his workshop, where he built guitars and several pieces of furniture. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, Mr. Trent was preceded in death by three sisters: Goldie Hill, Manota Akers and Dallas Howard and three brothers: Harry “Mert” Trent, Earl Trent and Lane E. Trent. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 71 years, Ruth Burford Trent; sons: Gary Trent of Elizabethtown, KY, Greg & Cindy Trent of Elizabethtown, KY, Harold & Sandra Trent of Beaver, Darrell & Ernestine Trent of Elkview and Roy and Doreen Trent of Kopperston; daughters: Debbie & James Smith of Crouch’s Farm, Mary and Jay Wykle of Lillydale, Medina Trent of Houston, TX and Sheila and Firley Shumate of Glen Fork. Also mourning his loss are his twenty five grandchildren: Joey, Jeremy and Lauren Shumate, Thomas Roy, Gregory Michael, Tyler, Kealind, Harold Ray, Darrell Jay and Christie Trent, Melissa Dixon, April Elkins, Brandon, Matthew and Samantha Smith, Candace and Richard Day, Roy, Jr., Ashley and Dustin Trent, Kaitlyn and Michael Vance, Hailey Wykle, Joey Bailey and Jenna Fish; twelve great-grandchildren: Caine, Kersten, Kylie, Dylan, Emiley and Bella Trent, Trent Smith, Brayleigh Vance, Kaidence, Noah and Abel Trent, Ashton Fish and one on the way; three step-grandchildren: Kirby and Joey Massey and Chase Kennedy; and three step-great-grandchildren: Westen, Brody and Miley Massey. Other survivors include one brother, Leonard (Jr.) Trent of Beckley; three half-brothers: Don, Leon and James Trent; four half sisters: Brenda Sizemore, Patricia Skellie, Linda Godfrey and Deborah Trent; and countless nieces and nephews. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to: Beckley VA Medical Center, Hospice Unit, 200 Veterans Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
