On Friday, April 15, 2016, Stella Virginia Walls slipped peacefully into Heaven while surrounded by her family. At the age of 83, Virginia was a life-long resident of Cyclone where she and her husband, Guy, raised two sons and seven daughters. In addition to rearing her family, she dedicated many years to educating the children of her community. After attending Beckley College, she was employed by the Wyoming County Board of Education for several years. An early educator, she taught first grade at Long Branch and Road Branch Grade School from 1966 to 1967. She was a Kindergarten Aide at Road Branch from 1972 to 1980 where she was a true mentor and mother figure to many. Virginia was a member of Cyclone Missionary Baptist Church for 47 years where her husband was pastor. She is welcomed into her Heavenly home by loved ones gone before her – her husband of forty-nine years, Rev. Guy Walls, a precious granddaughter, Lindsay Faith Staton, her parents, Nathan and Ruth Toler, two sisters, Ellen Marie Toler and Norma Jean Toler, two brothers, David Nathan Toler and Ronald Dale Toler. Those honored to cherish her memory are her nine children – Judy Thacker and husband John of Kopperston, Merle Walls and wife Rebecca of Cyclone, Sharon Stewart and husband Joe of Crouch’s Farm, Linda Philpot and husband Keith of Cyclone, Brenda Samples and husband Eddie of Oceana, Virginia (Lu) Boggs and husband George of Oceana, Cindy Staton and husband Larry of Oceana, Stephen Walls and wife Kati of Key Rock, and Stephanie Bailey and husband Tim of Oceana; Fifteen Grandchildren – Jennifer Thacker, Catrina Thacker, Andrea Brown, Mary A. Ridge, Thomas J. Walls, Melinda Hamrick, Misty Lyons, Russell Stewart, Devon Stewart, Kara Proffit, Daniel Boggs, Lauren Staton, Samuel Toler, Hannah Walls, and Leslie Bailey; Ten Great-Grandchildren – Madalyn, Rylee, Alyssa, Corey, Autumn, Danielle, Brielle, Alayna, Braxton, and Addison; Two sisters – Charlene Acord (Troy and Matthew) and Wanda Cook (Tommy, Teri, and TJ); A Sister-in-law – Jeanette Toler (Nancy, David, and Regina) and a host of family and friends. There could be no greater legacy than the love and dedication she leaves behind. What a blessing it is to call her Mother and Grandmother. Special thanks to our many friends and extended church families for the love, support, and prayers offered.
