
Thomas Hugh Smith, Jr., of Grandview, passed away Friday, February 5, 2016. Born April 30, 1947, he was the son of Virginia Smith and the late Thomas Hugh Smith, Sr. Known to many as “Smitty”, he graduated from Oceana High School, attended Beckley College, Marshall University and Glenville State College, where he played football. He worked as a teacher and a football coach and then worked as a sales representative for Broyhill Furniture for several years. Tommy spent his retirement working on his small farm, operating his sawmill and helping his mother and brother with their farm. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Tommy loved to take his granddaughters horseback riding and driving them around the farm on the Gator. Tommy was always friendly and outgoing, never met a stranger, and leaves behind countless friends. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Douglas Smith. Those left to mourn his passing are his mother, Virginia Smith, a brother, John Eric Smith, two children, Wayne Smith and Meghan Powell and five granddaughters, whom he adored.
