

Aubrey Eugene (Gene) Hillis passed away September 29, 2014 at ORMC. He was born February 27, 1933 in New Boston, Texas to Vernon and Jewell Hillis. He graduated from James Bowie High School. He worked in the oil and gas industry and ranching.
Gene married Ellie Clark in 1980 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. They moved to Marietta, Ohio in 1981 and started their oil and gas company, later retired and came to west Texas to be near their children.
Gene loved music, played in bands and was a great guitar player. He loved Johnny Cash tunes. He and “Miss Ellie” as he called her enjoyed company and boating on the Ohio River.
He loved his family and friends. He taught his grand-children to drive, unbeknownst to their parents.
He loved reading his Bible and his church where he was very active. He served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee and on the Permanent Fund Board and was Property Chairman for several years. He was a substitute Sunday School teacher. He also served eleven years as President of Stoney Ridge Home Owners Association.
He is survived by his wife Ellie, four children, Toni Holland and husband Bob, Rhonda Adamson and husband Glenn, Chet Clark and wife Tammy, Paula Reeves and husband Rick, nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two brothers, and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, a son and his much loved Pomeranian “Miss Millie”.
A memorial service is planned for 2pm Friday, October 3, 2014 at First Christian Church, 601 N. Lee Ave. Odessa, Texas with Pastor Joe Weaks officiating.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
