Betty Jane Stanley

Betty Jane Stanley, age 75, of Odessa, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 13, 2013. She was born on July 4, 1937.

Betty was known by those who loved her as Betty, Betty Jane, Jane, Mom or Granny. She was a woman that knew trials and tribulation throughout her life, yet she always maintained a “can do” attitude with a true servant’s heart.

When not tending to her family, she could be found serving in her church. Betty taught junior high and high-school aged individuals in Sunday school for years. Always desiring to make sure her Bible lesson was remembered, she would push the boundaries of technique. Although some of her techniques seemed far- fetched by many at the time, they are commonplace today.

Other than teaching and serving in her church, Betty loved to travel and had many other notable qualities. One that surely will be missed is that of being a great chef of comfort food. Fried chicken and biscuits, along with coconut cream or chocolate pie, were always quickly consumed at family dinners on Sundays. Don’t ask for the recipe, for it was a “little of this” and a “pinch of that.” No matter what the recipe, it was always delicious and brought the family home for times of conversation and togetherness.

Betty Jane is survived by her husband of 57 years, Billy Stanley, Sr.; daughters, Sheryl Brookshire and husband Doyle; Sharon Bynum and husband, Cory; and one son, Billy Stanley, Jr., and wife Darlene. She is also survived by grandchildren: Jason Brookshire and wife, Susie; Timothy Brookshire and wife, Amy; Hannah Bynum; and DJ Morrison. Also she is survived by great grandchildren: Madison Brookshire, and Oran and Destiny Morrison. In addition, she is survived by one brother, Kenneth Wagner, and two sisters, Veoma Fleet, and Oleta Rowch.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life at 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Grace Christian Fellowship on Billy Hext Road in Odessa, TX.
