Bettye Jo Smith, 88, of Odessa passed away Monday, January 22 of 2018 at Medical Center Hospital. Bettye was born September 1, 1929 in Lefors, TX. She was a graduate of Eastland High School. She went to work for Southwestern Bell as a Telephone Operator where she met the love of her life, Harold Joe Smith. They married on June 1, 1952 and moved to Odessa, TX after Joe was transferred. They enjoyed going to church together and were lifetime members of Kingston Ave. Baptist Church. Soon after, they started their family and had three wonderful children, two sons and one daughter. Bettye then went to work at ECISD Food Service and retired in 1996. Joe and Bettye both enjoyed spending time together at their lake house at Oak Creek Lake until her love was called home on September 6, 2000. She found great joy in spending time with all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was known for having a special way of comforting babies when no one else could with her soothing song called “Bye-Oh-Baby-Bye” which will forever be replayed in our hearts. She is survived by her children: son, Greg Smith and wife Elaine; daughter Sara Lange and husband Andy; and daughter-in-law Keira Smith. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Toni Johnson and husband Michael, Jesamy Ferguson and husband Jeremy, Leah Margettie, Lisa Lee and husband Travis, Kevin Hughes, Kasha Rosas and husband Richard, and Keena Richardson. She also had fifteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she treated and loved just like her own children and grandchildren. Bettye is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Joe Smith, and son, Stephen Gordon Smith. Viewing for family and friends is scheduled at Frank Wilson Funeral Home Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Kingston Ave. Baptist Church with Rev. John Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Travis Lee, Jason Whitford, Jeremy Ferguson, Richard Rosas, Kevin Hughes, Trey Urban and Dylan Sanders.
