Bobby D. Mercer passed from this life on September 27 at Sienna Nursing Home.
Doyle and Izella Mercer welcomed Bobby to this world on July 20, 1926 in Albany, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 1945-Dec. 1946, and was stationed in the post-war Pacific theatre. Bob worked mostly as a mechanic and spent several years working at Broncho Chevrolet.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Dean Mercer, an infant son, his parents, one brother Billy, a sister Donzella Mercer-Cheek and a grandson Waylon Martin.
Bob married Dorothy Whitney-Mercer on July 17, 1999 in Fritch, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, a sister Betty Bickle, four daughters; Wilma Kirkland and Wanda Wills of Austin, Arkansas; Diane Baker of El Paso, Arkansas and Gail Schumaker of Odessa, also, 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and a special nephew Billy Doyal Mercer.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sienna Nursing Home’s, Alzheimer's unit, for the comfort and compassion they have shown Bob for the last three years. Also a heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caring staff of Star Hospice.
Visitation will be held Today Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors from1pm to 9pm with a family gathering with friends from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral Services will be held at 10AM Monday, October 1, 2012 at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with Reverends: Tommy Good and Robert Lamb officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral Services by Frank Wilson Funeral Directors & Odessa Funeral Home.
