

Concepcion Jose Herrera Chavez, age 90 was called home on July 14, 2011 at the Hospice House in Odessa. He was born on December 8, 1920 in Casa de Piedra, Texas to Jose and Encarnacion Herrera Chavez. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anita Torres Chavez on October 30, 2008, his parents, brothers Catarino, Victor and Ramon, sister, Narcisa C Rayo. In 1954 he moved his family to Odessa from Marfa. He worked in the ranching business in the Big Bend area. He was employed by Parker and Parker Construction Co and S.L. Briley for many years. He was a Boy Scout Master Troop #94, Eucharist Minister, member of the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In 1991 he got his GED from Odessa College. Mr Chavez was also known as Tio Ni, Chon, el senor que resava el rosario, and was also a Cursillista. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Aurora Chavez Castillo and husband Fernando, Cecilia Chavez, Leonor Chavez all of Odessa, sons; Benjamin T. Chavez and Miguel (Mike) Chavez both of Odessa, sisters; Carmen C. Simpson of Del Rio, Elvira C. McGuire of Odessa, Anita C. Bustamante of Marfa. 2 grandchildren Gregory C. Castillo, Amanda Castillo Murguia and husband Tony and 2 great grandsons, Fabian M. Castillo of Belton, Alejandro M. Murguia of Odessa, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A Rosary will be recited at 7 PM on Sunday July 17, 2011 at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Reverend Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial will follow at Ector County Cemetery, Rose Hill Section. Pallbearers will be Greg Castillo, Tony Murguia, Charles Simpson, Reyes Chavez, Jose Chavez, David McGuire, Richard McGuire.
