She was born to the late William Britton Lansford and Ima Mae Lansford on July 5, 1939, in Childress, Tx. Her family moved to Odessa in 1948 and later moved to Gardendale. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1957 and married the love of her life, James Ogle Shipman on June 3, 1960. They were married for 58 years until his passing in 2018.
Donna and Ogle met when she was just 16 years old. Soon after Ogle returned from the army, they got married. Donna’s entire life revolved around her family. She was so proud of her boys and how all of them turned out to be such good husbands and fathers. Her love for the boys and Ogle were unmatched by anybody you could ever know.
Donna stayed at home with the boys until they were all three in elementary school. She started out working at the Bowie Jr High cafeteria and then she worked at Home Savings / HSA Mortgage for several years. When HSA Mortgage sold, she went to work for the Midland County Clerk’s office until she retired around 2001. She made lifelong friendships with the girls she worked with and enjoyed it tremendously when she would hear from some of them even after she retired.
While being a homemaker, she sewed a lot of the boys’ clothes and Ogle’s shirts, crocheted blankets and dolls, and always made sure that there was a hot meal on the table every night for supper. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, wife, daughter and sibling. After moving to Gardendale, Donna, Ogle and the boys worked in her parent’s garden for many years. Every year, Donna would start canning many of their homegrown fruits and vegetables to last through the winters. She also helped Ogle maintain their large yard and was endlessly pulling weeds and cleaning the flower beds with him! Sometimes she would even edge the entire yard while he mowed. She unconditionally welcomed anyone to her household that the boys brought home with them as well as her future daughter-in-laws and their children. She loved all of them like they were her own children and grandchildren. Donna always bragged on her daughter-in-laws and told everyone that she was lucky her sons married such sweet young ladies and how they all got along together. Her kids, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant everything to her as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Donna was baptized in 2006 at Parkview Church of Christ and dedicated her life to the Lord. She was a member of the Billy Hext Church of Christ and read her bible almost every day, attending services whenever her health allowed it. She loved listening to country music and gospel music and especially loved it when her sons would sing.
She is survived by her three sons and their wives: James Terry Shipman (Liz); Bobby Dean Shipman (Cathy); Jimmy Ray Shipman (Tami). Her Grandchildren: Justin Johns (Brittany); Jaclyn Wakefield (Johnathan); Hillary Foreman (Kellen); Brittani Perry (Travis); Brandon Shipman (Kaitlyn), Dallas Graves (Laura); Erin Wilkerson (Darren) and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Britton and Ima Lansford; Her husband, Ogle Shipman; Brothers, Billy Dave Lansford and Roy Wayne Lansford; and, one sister, Patty Ruth Stevens.
