

Dorothy Roberta Hammond Jones, 88, of Odessa passed away July 24, 2010, at the Hospice House. She was born October 2, 1921 in Wetumpka, Alabama to Marvin Timmons and Ethel Hammond. She was a devoted member of Northside Baptist Church and was a Christian. She previously served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was an instructor at Commercial Business College. She served as a clerk for Selective Service during WWII. She married Marvin Jones in Prattville, Alabama on December 22, 1947 until Marvin’s death December 8, 1994. They were married 46 wonderful years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin L. Jones, son Carlos L. Jones and brother, Lester Hammond.
She is survived by sisters, Reba Hammond of Birmingham, Alabama and Edith Libson - Hardy of Odessa; daughters, Renita Brunker and husband Fred of Hixon, Tennessee; Ausie Burns and husband Charlie of Odessa; daughter-in-law Barbara Jones, of Odessa. Nieces Linda Jones and Peggy Edmonds of Alabama; nephews Terry Hammond, Jerry Hammond and Bob Hammond all of Alabama; Tim Libson of Chicago, Illinois, Ted Libson of S. Carolina and Dr. David Libson of Odessa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-nieces.
Dorothy was an avid fan of MOJO Football, Atlanta Braves Baseball and Tiger Woods Golf (until recently). She enjoyed crocheting and needle work, doing word puzzles and cooking and served as a family matriarch

Family will receive visitors Monday, July 26, 2010, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 27, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Northside Baptist Church with the Rev. Clydel Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
