
Elva Palma Hurst, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on January 7, 2025, at the age of 91.
Elva, cherished daughter of Tiburcio Palma and Pabla Rico, was born on March 27, 1933, in Presidio, Texas. Elva is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Ralph Hurst, beloved son and daughter, Daniel Hernandez and Patricia Aguilar. EIva also mourned the loss of her dear siblings: Melesio Palma (Manuela), Jose Palma (Petra), Isabel Calderon (Jose), Asuncion Garcia (Isabel), Beatrice Gonzales (Amalio), Victor Palma (Erika), and Jose Leonel Palma (Maria).
Elva is survived by her children, Mike Hernandez, Rebecca Carter (Steve Schwebke) and Paulette Palma (Steven Brown). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Mikey and Matthew Hernandez, Jared Aguilar, Liana Larson, Michael Anthony, Christina Clare, and Christopher Daniel, as well as her ten great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren each of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride.
Elva's life was a testament to love, resilience, deep faith, and service to helping others. Elva's compassion extended beyond her family, touching the lives of many. She will be remembered for her warmth and her compassion. As we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, we celebrate the incredible life she lived and find solace in knowing that she is now at peace.

Elva's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice of Midland for their compassionate care during her final days. Their support allowed Elva to spend her last moments surrounded by the love of her family, creating cherished memories that will live on in their hearts forever. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the Texas Tech Police Department and to the staff of Texas Tech UHSC for their love and support during the last several months.
