Elvira Aguirre Martinez has won the final race. Because of her strong belief that without God we are nothing, she is on her way home to live with Jesus. Because she trusted God, death is not the end but only the beginning. Ms. Elvira departed her loved ones on March 6, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sabino and Tomasa Aguirre of Marfa, TX, and two brothers, Enrique and Sabino Jr., who died in childhood. Two sisters preceded her in death Maria Baeza (Jesus) of Odessa and Elena Tarango (Chon) of Marfa. Her Son Ernest R. Martinez, Jr. of Odessa and daughter, Juliet Gracie Martinez of Phoenix. Left to mourn, brothers, Sabino II of Monahans and Manuel of Houston, sister Elisa Tercero of Marfa, sons Leo (Carolyn), and Rene (Rose) of Odessa, Jonah (Tamara) of Sulphur, LA, and Daughters; Peggy of Lubbock, Norma (Anthony) of Midland and her daughter-in-law, Terry Martinez of Odessa.
Our mother had a kindred spirit, who touched the lives of so many different people, friends and strangers alike. She believed in sharing her blessings with others, because of the servant’s heart ingrained within her. God blessed her with a beautiful voice, and the memories of watching her wash, iron or making tortillas still touches those neighborhood kids who always seemed to find a seat at her dinner table. While she was never a wealthy person, her riches can be measured by her willingness to share of herself with others.
Elvira is also survived by 27 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
We wish to acknowledge the caregivers, for their dedicated and never ending care and love demonstrated during this difficult time of her life: Tiffany, Vicki, Maria and Juanita. We are forever grateful for these angels God placed in her life.
