Flora died May 28, 2013. The family will be receiving visitors on Friday, May 31, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Hubbard Kelley Funeral Home.
Flora was born on October 21, 1915, in Mesquite, Texas, to Clarence and Hattie Bennett. She worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Dallas during the war. She married Ernest L.Banks on November 8, 1945. In 1952, they moved from El Paso to Odessa. She very much loved raising her two sons, Barty and Benny, often affording them opportunities that she had been denied while living on the farm during the Depression. Her life was characterized by such selfless giving not only to her family but also to her many friends and acquaintances. She was a wonderful cook, especially known for her fried chicken and pot roast. She retired from the the Ector County Tax Assessor-Collectors office in 1982. She read the entire Bible through each year for many years. She would rather watch a football or baseball game than watch a movie. She was a faithful and much-loved member of Highland United Methodist Church for many years.
With her faith and trust in the Lord Jesus, her passing results in a glorious and joyous reunion with her Savior and many loved ones who have passed on. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, who died in 1999.
She is survived by her two sons, Barty and wife Susie of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Ben and wife Kathy of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Brittany and husband Joseph Simpson and Bethany Banks all of Hobbs, NM, Hunter Banks of San Diego, CA, and Bryan and Katie Banks all of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren Asia Rose Simpson, Jenesis Rain Simpson and Rhemaya Ruth Simpson all of Hobbs, NM.
A long-time dear friend observed of Flora, "I don't know when I have ever known a more precious, out-going, fun-loving, sincere friend as your mom.. .the world will be losing a great lifter,...a great Christian,... and a great individual who will be missed tremendously. There is something that really fits your mom as far as I am concerned... 'People won't remember what you said... People won't remember what you did... but they will always remember how you made them feel.' "
That was our Mom, a true gift from heaven. To God be the Glory
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
