We rejoice in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whom he faithfully served throughout his 78 years of life.
Paco was born on July 16, 1947, in Presidio, Texas, to Francisco Sotelo and Maria Cruz Valenzuela Cataño. He proudly answered the call to serve his country during the Vietnam War, and by the grace of God, returned home in 1975. He continued to serve in the U.S. Navy for a total of 27 years, ultimately retiring with honor as a Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO).
On July 29, 1995, Francisco married the love of his life, Maria Elena Sotelo. Together they were blessed with two children and later, two cherished grandchildren.
Francisco lived his life with unwavering faith, compassion, and joy. He always saw the good in people and found peace in every storm. He taught by example—showing kindness, giving selflessly, and treating others with respect. He had a heart for service and was always ready to lend a hand, offer a prayer, or share encouraging words. Known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and vibrant personality, Paco was the life of every gathering and a friend to all. A devout Catholic, he was a dedicated member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Odessa, where he worshipped regularly and served with humility and faith.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Elena Sotelo; children Maria Jose Sotelo and husband Roberto Reyes, Samantha Sotelo, Juan Sotelo and wife Jennifer, Maria Sotelo, and Francisco Sotelo, along with grandchildren Ezekiel Reyes, Zoey Creech, Mia Sotelo, and Noah Sotelo. His siblings include Cecilia Rodriguez and husband George, Herman Sotelo and wife Teresa, and Juan Cataño Jr. and wife Sandra.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco Sotelo and Maria Cruz Valenzuela Cataño; his stepfather, Juan Cataño; and siblings Samuel Sotelo, Maria Levario, Guadalupe Sotelo, and Ruben Cataño.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all who have supported them with prayers, love, and generosity during Francisco’s illness.
