Georgia Kelly left us on February 23, 2023 and our lives are diminished as a result of it. At the same time, we are encouraged by her example of a life well-lived. Georgiana Lynn Kelly was born in Pampa, Texas on April 27, 1937. She was the first of two children born to G.C. and Evelyn Hubbard.
Georgia moved to Odessa before her first birthday and spent the remainder of her life there. Georgia graduated from Odessa High School in 1955. She loved and supported Odessa High School and the athletic and other endeavors of her children and grandchildren who later attended and graduated from OHS. Upon graduating from high school, Georgia attended Odessa College.
Georgia met the love of her life, Jay Kelly, in 1956 and they were married on August 14, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa. They enjoyed more than sixty-five years of love, devotion and adventure.
Always open to new things, Jay and Georgia became avid skiers, tennis players, runners and cyclists. They skied much of the Rocky Mountains and had one memorable trip skiing the Swiss Alps. They also took cycling trips throughout the United States, often logging hundred-mile days. They also enjoyed a two-week long cycling trip through Ireland. Georgia and Jay had a host of cycling friends, were founding members of the Permian Basin Bicycle Association and organized and sponsored many cycling events in Texas and New Mexico.
Georgia was an active member of the Junior League of Odessa, served one term as its president, and was an active sustaining member. In her later years, Georgia became a Master Gardener and spent countless hours in her beautifully landscaped gardens.
Georgia was a woman of high standards. She expected much of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always provided them with the love and support they needed to meet those standards. Georgia was a woman of great faith and courage and throughout her illness, tended to think more of others and their lives and needs than her own. Her family is deeply grateful for her example.
Georgia and Jay spent a good part of their lives traveling throughout the world and particularly enjoyed family ski trips and summers at their Ruidoso home. Jay and Georgia felt especially blessed by their grandchildren, great-children, and great, great-grandchildren.
Georgia was predeceased by her husband, Jay; parents, G.C. and Evelyn Hubbard; and sister, Jean Hubbard. She is survived by her children, Mike Kelly (Teresa), Paul Kelly (Wynette), and India Tucker; grandchildren, Kelly Tucker, Kane Tucker (Heather), Patrick Kelly (Desiree), and Shannon Kelly Isom (Travis); great-grandchildren, Michael, Haven (Kaden), Cali, Kinsley, Harper, Jake, Ryan, and Hazely; and great, great-grandchild, Hali.
Georgia had great compassion for those in need. In this spirit, donations in her memory may be made to Jesus House of Odessa.
A graveside service will be held on March 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating.
Weeping may last for a night, but rejoicing will come in the morning. Psalms 30:5
