Gladys M. Breithaupt

Odessa~Gladys M. Breithaupt, age 88, passed from this earth Saturday, March 16, 2013. She was the only child of John and Blanche Cardwell. She was born November 8, 1924.

They moved to West Texas when she was two years old. She graduated from Forsan High School in 1941 as Salutatorian of her class. Later, she worked for Continental Oil Company.

New Year's Eve of 1941, she met a love of her life, Captain Joe Cissna and married in 1942. They had one daughter, Beverly Kelley. He was killed in action during World War II.

In 1947, she met another love of her life, Travis Breithaupt, and marriage followed. They had one daughter, Karen Stewart.

After 20 years as a homemaker, she began working for the State Department of Human Services. When Travis started having health problems, she quit work to care for him. He passed away in 1982.

They traveled in their Airstream travel trailer for many years. After Travis's death, she towed the trailer by herself for 16 years.

She volunteered at Gonzales Elementary where her two grandsons went to school. She is a member of Wally Byam Airstream Club, and has been a member of MCH Auxiliary for 31 years.

She was a devoted mother and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors: Beverly Kelley, daughter, and husband, Sam, San Antonio; Karen Stewart, daughter, Odessa: Other than her daughters, her pride and joys were 5 grandchildren Austin Stewart and wife, Rachel and great-grandsons, Nolan (3) and Nash (9 months), Frisco; Reagan Stewart and wife, Susanna, Katy; Gay Lynn Morrison and husband, Reid, and great-granddaughter, Caroline (9), Alpharetta, GA; Laurie Schroeder and husband, Kevin and great-grandchildren, Zachary (6), Matthew (3), and Caitlyn (22 months), Frisco; Doug Garone and wife, Libby, and great-grandchildren, Nathan (2), Laurel (2), and Erica (2), Edmond, OK.

Services will be 10:00 Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with David Miller officiating. Internment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
