Guadalupe Vega Melendez

Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Sister Guadalupe Vega Melendez, age 69 went to see the Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. Lupe was born on April 9, 1948 in Fabens, Texas to Eusebio and Cruz Vega. She married the love of her life, Jonell Melendez Sr. on January 31, 1963. She enjoyed gardening, collecting statues and spending time with grandkids. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jonell Melendez Sr.; father, Eusebio Vega; mother, Cruz Prieto; brothers, Eusebio Jr (Chato)Vega, Oscar (Pacoy) Vega, Danny Vega and Raymond Vega. She is survived by her, sons, Jonell Jr. Melendez, Chris Melendez and wife Mary; daughter, Hazel Fuentes; grandkids, Christopher Rene Melendez, Tabitha Barrera, Michelle Melendez, Abigail Barrera Gurrola, Mathew Melendez, and Lupita Melendez; brothers, Joe Vega, Jesse Vega, Carlos Vega, and Robert Vega; sister, Estellea Vega Ybarra, and 15 great grandkids. Visitations will be held Wednesday, March 14, 2018 and Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. both days. A rosary will be on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Ector County Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Jonell Jr. Melendez, Chris Melendez, Chris R. Melendez, Mathew Melendez, Jose Ybarra, Gabriel Fuentes. Poem for my Mother

Over the earth where mortals sow and reap… Beneath its breast, my mother lies asleep. Thank you Mom for always being there for us. We are grateful for all the Love and gifts you have given us. Thanks for everything Mom. We will greatly miss you. Farewell on your new journey mom.

Biography

      Guadalupe Vega Melendez was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Guadalupe will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

       She was the daughter of Eusebio and Cruz Vega.

      Guadalupe was raised with nine siblings. She had eight brothers, Eusebio Jr, Oscar, Danny, Raymond, Joe, Jesse, Carlos, and Robert and one sister, Estellea. Guadalupe was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.

       Empathic and loyal, Guadalupe was committed to making her new family happy.

      Guadalupe worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Guadalupe was blessed with three children, two sons, Jonell Jr., Chris and one daughter, Hazel. Another blessing for Guadalupe was the gift of six grandchildren, Christopher, Tabitha, Michelle, Abigail, Mathew, and Lupita.

      Guadalupe enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were gardening, collecting statues and spending time with grandkids. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.

      Guadalupe passed away on March 11, 2018 at at her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her, sons, Jonell Jr. Melendez, Chris Melendez and wife Mary; daughter, Hazel Fuentes; grandkids, Christopher Rene Melendez, Tabitha Barrera, Michelle Melendez, Abigail Barrera Gurrola, Mathew Melendez, and Lupita Melendez; brothers, Joe Vega, Jesse Vega, Carlos Vega, and Robert Vega; sister, Estellea Vega Ybarra, and 15 great grandkids. Services were held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Guadalupe was laid to rest in Ector County Cemetery in Odessa, Texas.

      Simply stated, Guadalupe was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Guadalupe leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Guadalupe Vega Melendez.
