Helen Marie Tallant

She married Eugene Floyd Tallant in Clovis, NM on October 28, 1950. She worked throughout her life and had various jobs ranging from working in an egg factory, textile mill, election poll worker and homemaker. For a number of years she and her husband, Gene, owned and operated Gene’s Grocery and Mobile Home Park in Odessa. Helen loved the Lord and was a member of Greenfield Acres Baptist Church for over 61 years. She taught children and adult Sunday school classes, vacation bible school and received the Christian Service Award in 1999. She also belonged to Crafty Tuesday, the Spady Ladies, and WMU.

Helen enjoyed going to church, visiting the sick, and was always willing to chauffeur friends in need of rides. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved getting visits from family and friends, playing cards, collecting angels, going to water aerobics, and reading. In her younger years, she spent a lot of time sewing and crocheting. When she could no longer see, she would quote and comfort others and herself with the many bible verses she had memorized.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Floyd Tallant; daughter, Colleen Hall; father, Jessie Andrew Johnson; step-mother, Nannie Mae Moore Johnson; mother, Gwendolyne (Martin) Johnson; brothers, Jessie and Jack Johnson; and sister, Pauline Jenkins.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Linda Ward and husband George of Odessa, Paula Glenn of Bishop, and Amelia Beam of Odessa; grandchildren, Susan Hendricks and husband Ethan of Odessa, Isaac Hall and wife Nikki of Blanco, Heather Richardson and husband Joe of Erie, CO, Juli Hall of San Angelo, Brandon Glenn and wife Lupita of Overton, Melissa Glenn of Bishop, Joseph Ward and wife Jasmine of Longmont, CO, and Jason Ward of Odessa; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and 22 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, July 9, 2021 from 5-9 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 10 AM at Hubbard-Kelly with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Isaac Hall, Brandon Glenn, Joe Richardson, Tyler Dyson, Ethan Hendricks and Jason Ward will serve as pallbearers.
