Howard was born Christmas Eve, 1928, in Lamesa, TX, to Monroe Reed and Josie Reed Fox, and raised by his mother and stepfather, Noble Fox. He graduated from Lamesa High School and attended Odessa Junior College and East Texas State University, first studying architecture and later accounting.
He was a proud Thirty-Second Degree Mason, a former deacon at Belmont Baptist Church, and later, a member of the First Baptist Church.
Owner of Howard Reed, Inc, Howard served the community as a longtime tax accountant and investment counselor. Besides loving the logic of math, Howard loved speed, once designing and operating a go-cart track outside Odessa, and taking his favorite golden ’68 GTO at full speed on the interstate “to clean out the carburetor.”
In addition, he took great pleasure in his vegetable gardens and sharing the produce. Bird hunting and fishing rounded out his favorite activities.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Reed; children Michael and Deborah (Ron); and grandchildren William, Jonathan (Dylan), and Caroline Taylor.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, with interment at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa.
