

Dr. Ishamel Worth Greer was born in Mineola, Texas on November 12, 1924, to Hiram Varner and Nora Lee Greer.
He served in the army in WWII and saw service in the Pacific for 3 years.
He married Doris Imogene Reynolds on August 15, 1946.
They made their home in Borger, Texas where he worked as a lead carpenter in his father’s cabinet shop, and then as a journeyman electrician for Southwestern Public Service until he surrendered to preach in 1960. They moved to Springfield, MO., where he attended Baptist Bible College.
Ishamel pastored churches in Missouri and Louisiana as well as 16 years at Berean Baptist in Lubbock, Texas and 18 years at Bethel Baptist in San Angelo, Texas a total of 44 years. While in Lubbock, he received his doctorate of divinity from the Universal Bible Institute. After retiring in 2002, at the age of 80, he helped with a ministry at Bethel Baptist Church in Grape Creek, Texas until health issues interfered.
His passion was spending hours studying the Bible, teaching, and preaching. He was known as a tremendous Bible teacher and the degree of Bible Knowledge that his former church members gleaned, bear that out.
Ishamel was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Doris Imogene Greer.
He is survived by four children, Charles Reynolds and wife Linda of Odessa, Nancy Blake and her husband Keith of Tulsa, OK., Ippy Neil Greer and his wife Allison of Levelland, TX., and Cindy Moore of Odessa; six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all.
Family will receive friends Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with Pastor Johnny Thomason of Life Change Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Ector County Cemetery.
