Ishmael "Magoo" Natividad Barrera

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ishmael "Magoo" Barrera, a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us on June 18th, 2024 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Magoo was born on June 10, 1962 just 5 minutes after his twin Yolanda to their parents Alberto and Roperta Barrera in Pecos, Texas. From then on Magoo went to school along with his twin until graduating from Odessa High School 1981. He worked as a swamper with ABC and Lonestar then went to Auto Max as a detailer. Known for his quick wit and kind heart, Magoo lived life to the fullest, cherishing time with loved ones and making everyone feel welcome. He shared countless memories with his family, from being outside with his father to helping his mother in the kitchen, and from watching classic Westerns to working on his vehicles, and loving on peanut. His love for his family was evident in every gesture, whether it was his forgiving nature, the offering of his seat or a warm meal. Magoo's legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.

Magoo is survived by his Jefa Roperta N Barrera of Odessa,Texas; twin sister Yolanda Hinojos and husband Ernesto, of Odessa, Texas; Brother Alfonso Barrera and wife Olga, of Odessa, Texas. Sons: Adam Barrera, Alex Barrera, Anthony Barrera and Dominic Barrera; Daughters: April Barrera, Takayren Barrera and Peanut Barrera along with a total of 14 grand-kids and 2great grand kids.

Magoo is preceded in death by his Viejito (Dad) Alberto Acosta Barrera and 3 brothers: Rudy, Alberto Jr., and Freddy.

Debbie Gonzales, Jaime Hinojos, Anthony Barrera, Chavo Barrera, Dominic Barrera, Maritza Hinojos, Noel Hinojos and Javen Gonzalez will serve as Pallbearers.

A visitation for Magoo will be held Monday, June 24, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at Odessa Funeral Home, 1700 N Jackson Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761. A visitation will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, 1700 N Jackson Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761. A rosary will occur Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 1700 N Jackson Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2633 Conover Ave, Odessa, Texas 79763. A committal service will occur Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Ector County Cemetery, 300 S Dixie Blvd, Odessa, Texas 79761.
