James Baucum Jr. (69) passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at his home in Odessa, TX after a hard fight with cancer. He was born on May 1, 1949 to James and Clara Baucum in Newton, MS. He moved with his family to Odessa in the 1950’s. James married the love of his life Janet “Sissy” Lauderdale on November 16, 2015.
James is preceded in death by his mother and father, James Sr. and Clara Waterloo Baucum and his beloved wife, Sissy Baucum.
He is survived by his brother, Paul and wife Tracy Baucum; sister, Nancy Baucum Askew of Dallas, TX; daughter, Tosha Baucum and Jared Haner of Midland, TX; grandson who he called “son”, Cody James and wife Candace Hughes of Midland, TX; granddaughter Keely and husband Taylor Nixon of Odessa, TX; granddaughter, Karly and husband Larry Galindo of Midland, TX; three great grandsons, Corbin Lane, Brayden Lane and Kason James; great granddaughter, Cydnee Autum as well as other family.
It has been said that to have a good friend, you have to be a good friend. He must have been a great friend because he had amazing friends that he loved like family such as Cullen Hudnall, Jared Haner & Ronnie Koonce and Butch Overturf, just to name a few.
Services for James will take place on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society.
