James Russell Norton, age 94, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Sienna Care Center in Odessa.
He was born September 13, 1915, to James and Alpha (Weatherford) Norton in Imperial Valley, CA. He served in the U.S. Navy and was the owner of Odessa Laundry and Cleaners for 63 years. He also was a member of the Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang. He served as the OCWG Gang Boss in 1977. He was a member of the Lubbock Scottish Rite and the Odessa Rotary Club. He loved Dallas Cowboy and Permian football. He was an avid fisherman and loved to hunt.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Emilene Norton.
He is survived by his daughter, Dana Smith and husband, Doug of Odessa; his sister, Jimmie Nell Brown of Pomeroy, WA; and two grandchildren, Kristy and Kaleigh.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating.
