Born in Sweetwater, Texas, on September 10, 1936, to Austin and Lillie Mae Bush, Jayne's early years were spent in the West Texas towns of McCamey, Pecos, and Odessa. She graduated from Odessa High School and pursued her academic dreams at Sul Ross State University, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees. Her commitment to education was unwavering, often commuting from Odessa to
Sul Ross in Alpine after a full day's work.
Jayne’s journey in life and love began with Jay Vernon Davis, with whom she had three children, including her son Gregory Jay Davis, who passed away shortly after birth, and daughters, Jayne Melissa (Missey) and Jana Lynn Davis. Later, she found happiness with Dr. Bernhard Theodore Werner Sedate, blending their families together to include Cheryl, Sonny, Shawn, Shane, and Layne.
During her remarkable 32-year career in the Ector County Independent School District, Jayne transitioned from teaching first grade to becoming an esteemed educational diagnostician.
Jayne's artistic talent shone brightly from a young age, igniting her passion for painting. Her unwavering dedication to her craft is evident in the breathtaking pieces that grace the walls of countless friends and family members. One of her greatest joys was painting with beloved friends at Canvas Creations.
Jayne also had a fondness for building and decorating dollhouses. She collected an impressive array of over 200 dollhouses, generously donating this remarkable collection to the Miniatures and Curious Collections Museum in Roswell, New Mexico.
Above all, Jayne relished her roles as a mother, wife, and friend. She reveled in the role of motherhood, embracing each day with her children as a cherished gift. Friends and family will always remember her generosity, sharp wit and delightful sense of humor.
Jayne was preceded in death by her parents, her son Gregory Jay, her husband, Bernhard Sedate, and her brother, Frank Newton Bush.
