Jerry Wayne Gold

Jerry Wayne Gold, 76, of Odessa went home to his heavenly Father Friday morning February 4, 2011 after a long and courageous fight with cancer. He was born to John Alan Gold and Dessie D. Gold in the “big city” of Morgan Mill, Texas on August 26, 1934. He lived a short time in Eastland, Texas until they moved to Odessa in 1942, where he lived the rest of his life. He loved Odessa and met the love of his life Mary Nell Eakins in July 1956. They have been married since November 22, 1958 enjoying the lives of three boys and lots of dogs.

Jerry worked as a teenager for a local pharmacy delivering prescriptions by bicycle. He later was manager of West Texas Office Supply and then became assistant manager of Motheral Printing of Odessa. He was active in the Little League Baseball Program and enjoyed coaching. He was also active in the Odessa Optimist club where he served as president. In 1976 he became co-owner of Miller/Gold Printing until 1992. He sold his partnership and semi-retired to fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of 6th and Jackson Church of Christ (previously known as Northside Church of Christ) where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He was the best husband, father, brother, son, and friend. He will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dessie Gold.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Mary Nell Gold, three sons, Tim W. Gold and wife B.J. of Odessa, Jay Paul Gold of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Phillip Gold and wife Jamie of St. Louis, Missouri, sister, Johnnie A. Holley and husband Joe of Fort Stockton, TX.

The family will receive visitors from 6pm-8pm on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2011 at the 6th & Jackson Church of Christ with Phillip Gold, Bennie Keck, and Lynn Money officiating.

In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to the West Texas Food Bank.
