Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted- Matthew 5:4
Loving wife, mother and friend, Jimmie Grace (Cearley) Hampton was born in Haskell, Texas on April 5, 1935 to Clyde and Mary (Hitt) Cearley. She entered Heaven’s gates on August 15, 2017 after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes. Jimmie moved to Odessa, Texas in 1938 as part of her family’s journey to explore the oilfield “boom” opportunities of West Texas. Jimmie attended Rusk Elementary and completed her public education at Odessa High School. Jimmie married Jackie D Hampton, Sr. on December 16, 1955 in Lovington, New Mexico. Jack and Jimmie formed a wonderful life together in their travels across West Texas in their early years to finally settle in Odessa, Texas. They raised four children. Before settling into biggest career of her life, full-time homemaker, Jimmie worked at various drug/variety stores of historic downtown Odessa. Not only was Jimmie devoted wife and mother, she was also an excellent cook, gardener, caregiver and animal lover. Over the years she collected a large library of cookbooks as well as antiques and vintage farming equipment. She loved her family, first and foremost but enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. She loved classic country music, Baptist hymnals. Mother also loved sports especially baseball, basketball and track. Jimmie had an unwavering faith in God. She became a member of Emmanuel Baptist as a child. Although Jimmie was no longer a church member, she lived each day as a child of God. She believed in living his word by living a “good” life and treating those that she loved with great love and kindness. This love and kindness carried over to God’s four legged creatures as well. She was also blessed to have two very close friends, Phyllis Holley and Mayola Kasparek. To mother, they were more like sisters and to us, aunts. Her parents, loving husband of 49 years, Jackie D Hampton, Sr., 2nd love, Charles Johnson, son Jackie D Hampton, Jr. and siblings J.E., Lennis and Annie, predeceased Jimmie. She is survived by her children, Schylet Davis, Susan Johns and Natalie Hampton (Richard Southerland), three grandchildren, Denny Graham, Grant Templeton, Hampton Johns and a great-granddaughter, Nora Templeton and sister, Janice Boyles as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks the following for their care: Dr. Michael Shelton, Dr. Nam Kim, MCH, Visiting Angels, Midland Hospice and Midland Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to an animal rescue/shelter or children’s hospital of their choice. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
