Born on July 12, 1924 in Healdton, OK. John graduated from Dundee High School in Oklahoma.
John was married to the love of his life, Jessie Byrd on November 13, 1954. They were married 63 years.
He worked as a chief foreman for Shell Oil in the TXL Gas Plant for 39 years. He enjoyed working with his hands and found wonder in God’s creation by being outdoors most. You could always find him smiling while reading, fishing, hunting, woodworking, camping and riding his Harley Davidson. He told the best of stories to all who would listen and passed out many candies along the way.
John is preceded in death by his father Rome Freeman and mother, Audrey Freeman Gummelt as well as stepfather, Ed Gummelt. He is also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Otho and Elva Voyles.
He is survived by his wife, Jessie; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Vonda Freeman; Granddaughter, Shan Cox and husband, Cary; four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Wyatt, Anson, and Caroline; along with many nieces and nephews. Brothers and sisters include JC Voyles and wife Frieda, Billy Voyles and wife Helen and Correna Pickens.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16,, 2018 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 10:00 am on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with John VanHoose officiating. Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Bethel Assembly of God Church.
