Jon was born January 24, 1945 in Alamosa, Colorado to Herron and Mary (Manning) Haynie. He grew up there and graduated from Alamosa High School in 1963. Jon played basketball and was in the band, playing the trumpet and the tuba. In his early teens, he developed a love of flying and airplanes. He became a licensed pilot at the age of 16 and remained so to the present day. Flying was his passion.Jon attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, majoring in political science.
He enlisted in and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His courage and calm nature enabled him to excel as an explosives and bomb expert.
After leaving the U.S. Air Force, Jon’s love of cars led him to a lifetime career in the automobile business-from a parts store owner in Phoenix, Arizona to a new car salesman in Odessa to Bruckner’s Truck Sales, his current employer. He loved vintage cars and scooters and was also an excellent bowler. Jon was a long-standing member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the U.S. bowling Association.
Retirement was near for Jon. In just weeks he and his wife, Jeannie, were moving to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. They already owned a home there, and he was looking forward to golf, fishing, and dancing. Jon loved all types of music and was a great dancer. He and Jeannie met at a high school dance when she was 14 and he was 17, and he anticipated many years of dancing to come.
Jon was a wonderful husband and father, loving his children with all his heart. He was so proud of his brothers and sisters and being part of a large extended family. He was a very optimistic, happy person, always having a joke or funny story ready to tell.
