

Joseph Robert Snyder (b. October 25, 1925 in Victoria, TX) died peacefully in the presence of family at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa on October 13, 2010. Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Loyce, his son John, daughter-in-law Kathy, grandson Karl, and many beloved and loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
After graduating from Patti Welder High School in Victoria, TX, he served as a radar operator aboard the USS Wren in the Pacific theater during World War II. Joe met the love of his life, Loyce Weathers, at Abilene Christian College, where they both graduated in 1950. They were married in Abilene the following year.
Joe had a long and satisfying career as an analytical chemist, working for Dupont, Cosden, El Paso Products and Rexene. As the result of this work, he jointly held several patents.
Joe served as part-time minister and preacher for many West Texas congregations, especially the Churches of Christ in Knott and Goldsmith. He loved to sing and was a popular Bible class teacher with a special gift for ministering to the elderly. Joe also served for many years on the Board of Odessa Christian School, where his wife Loyce was a teacher.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, at 2 p.m. at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland. A family graveside service will be held on Monday at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene. Viewing on Friday will be from 5-8p.m., at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa. Memorial contributions may be made to Odessa Christian School, Midland Christian School or Foster’s Home for Children in Stephenville, TX.
