Lester Lloyd Russell

Lester Lloyd Russell was born in a small town in Alabama, on June 3, 1918, to Thomas Jefferson Russell and Octavia Glass Russell. He lost his mother when he was ten years old. He and his eight brothers and sisters were raised by their paternal grandmother, Frances Russell. All his siblings precede him in death.

Daddy was 92 years old and passed peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Hospice House in Odessa. Daddy is reunited in death with his wife, Vera, of almost 60 years. He will be buried beside her at Fairmont Cemetery in San Angelo, TX.

He also lost his only son, Lloyd Raymond Russell, less than four months ago. Daddy told me many times since my brother’s death that he wanted to go home to Heaven. He never got over the tragic loss of his son.

Daddy made his home with his daughter, Ladell Ulbrich, and son-in-law, Louis, who passed away six months ago. He was happy to be close to his grandchildren, Brian Truitt, of Midland, TX, and Lisa Massey, also of Midland, TX. He leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Bailey, Tatum, and Caron Truitt and Brandon Massey. They were very special to him and he was special to them.

He is also survived by a niece, Ruth Lucas, and her family of Conroe, TX, and a nephew, Paul Brinkley and his family of Houston, TX. He leaves behind also a very dear sister-in-law, Laura Kneblick and her children, David Cheryl, and Petey. He got to share some precious time with Laura and David a short-time ago which meant a lot to all of us.

Our very special thanks goes to Home Hospice and the entire staff at Hospice House in Odessa. They were all compassionate and exceptional in their field. We were so blessed to have my Dad spend his last days in their care.

My Daddy was a very special man and he was respected by all who knew him. You could not know my Dad without loving him.

The family will receive visitors from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. On Tuesday, April 12th, at Johnson’s Funeral Home in San Angelo, TX, there will be another visitation from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel in San Angelo, with Rev. David Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmont Cemetery in San Angelo, TX.
