Lois Darling Runyan
September 15, 1918 – November 26, 2020
Lois Runyan passed away November 26, 2020 with her family by her beside.
On September 15, 1918 in Kingman, Kansas was born Lois Geraldine Darling to Emory and Maude Darling. She was the second of three children. Mom was always a hard worker. She took care of the home, children and sewed and made clothes for herself and her girls. She always had beautiful flowers in her garden and tomatoes.
On Dec. 12, 1936 she married Robert Samuel Runyan. They had three daughters. Barbara Kay, Karen Ann and Sondra Sue. Robert worked in the oilfield, so they traveled with the rigs. From Kansas to Michigan then Oklahoma. From there to New Mexico and finally to Odessa, Tx. In 1960.
Lois survived Breast Cancer, three strokes and a broken hip and a hip revision that left her permanently in a wheelchair. She rebounded from all but the hip revision which left her in a wheelchair to get around in the last 9-10 years of her life.
When Robert retired from Gulf Oil Corp they bought a motor home and traveled to visit relatives and go fishing. Mom would catch, cook but not eat fish. They purchased a cabin on Lake Champion and worked extremely hard fixing the cabin up with help from the family. They enjoyed having the family come to fish. They really enjoyed bringing the grandchildren with them to fish.
Over the years, when Barbara retired, they would go down to the coast and spend six weeks. They enjoyed sitting on the jetties watching the tugboats bring the big ships in, and hunt for sea shells. After her husband passed away, she continued to travel with her children. She went to Hawaii, Nevada and Ruidoso. As her health declined, she came to live with Sondra and Pat Fowler. Over time she went to live at Parks Senior Living. She was cared for also by Home Hospice. She was liked by the staff at Parks and the (family) from Home Hospice.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents Emory and Maude Darling, brother Russell Darling, sister Virginia Ellen Darling, husband Robert, granddaughter Kathy Boyland Hicks and daughter Barbara Runyan Boyland.
She is survived by daughter Karen Rhea and Jerry and granddaughter Judy Rhea from Ft. Davis. Sondra Fowler and Pat of Odessa and grandsons James Robert Fowler and Melisa of Gordonville, Tx and Doug Fowler of Odessa.
