Louis (Lou) Mealer, 80 of Odessa passed away July 2, 2014 in Odessa. He was born July 4, 1933 to Claude and Esther Mealer in Honduras. He was a career military man serving his country for 20 years. He retired from the USAF as a Senior Master Sergeant. After retiring from the military, he worked in real estate. He married Linda Dooley in 1975. The highlight of each summer was spent traveling to Las Vegas, where Lou enjoyed gambling until the wee hours of the morning and the wonderful food they would find at many different restaurants. He also loved visiting his family in New Orleans and made several trips to Mardi Gras. He loved being with people, especially at family get-togethers. A July 4 BBQ followed by fireworks was always a special occasion. He was very active at St. Mary’s Church in his younger years. He was a main organizer at the Tuesday night Bingo Fundraisers. He was also an avid dog lover having several furry “children” in his lifetime. Wednesday afternoons you would find Lou and his favorite golf buddy, Bill Pollard…if he wasn’t mad at his partner for losing at Conasta on Friday night. Family will receive friends Sunday July 6, 2014 from 6-7pm at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors. The rosary will follow at 7pm. A funeral mass will be Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10am at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton with Father Mark Woodruff officiating. Louis was preceded in death by his parents. Louis is survived by his wife Linda Mealer, sons, Louis Mealer, Jr. and his wife Jeannie of Odessa, Steven Shackelford of Odessa, Billy Grimes and wife Jo of Midland, Tommy Grimes and wife Chris of Odessa, daughters, Wendy Mitchell of Odessa, Sheryl Coffman of Odessa, brothers, Robert Mealer and wife Digna of Honduras, George Mealer and wife Betty of Honduras, sister, Rosemary Velasquez and husband Hector of Metairie, LA, grandchildren, Angela, Bobby, Jordan, Kristi, Jene, Brent, Taylor, Parker, Kelsey, Trey, Mark and Tanner as well as several loving great-grandchildren. I forget that I can't call you or run by to see you. I miss you so bad. We are all so lucky to have had you in our lives. Not many people get two great dads. You knew I would take care of mom so it was time to go. Until we meet again...

Linda my heart and prayers go out to your family. I pray GOD will hold you tight. Lou was a true Sweetheart. I always enjoyed seeing him when he would come see you at the Library. I know he is at Peace. He is in my memories.

Uncle Lou you are already missed so much. I still think I am in shock. I just keep thinking of all the things you would say and do. One thing that I cannot get out of my mind is you always said "You know Judy you are alright". I will miss getting you coffee and whatever else you needed as you sat in the chair at the kitchen table at mom and dads. That will always be the Lou Mealer chair. I will do my best to take care of Linda because we all know she was your pride and joy. This is not goodbye because I will see you again someday when I reach those beautiful pearly gates.

Mr. Mealer was one of the "nicest people I have ever met." He and his wife were so "complimentary to each other with their genuine kindness;" and, so faithful to the Lord. Mr. Mealer was the "same" kind and outgoing gentleman, whether at Church or in public. Condolences to the entire family.

Linda (and all the kids and grandkids),

I was so sad to hear of Lou's death.

It has been said that "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Lou will live in the hearts of so many people for many years to come.

I pray that the love of those around you will help you through the days ahead.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."
Matthew 5:4
