Margaret (Peggy) McIntyre did not want to live past 80. However, God had other plans. On Saturday, May 13, at the age of 97, she joined her husband, Chuck. She died peacefully at her home in Odessa, with family and her friend/caregiver Kay at her side.
Peggy, the only child of Margaret and William Townsend, was born on January 9, 1926, in Baltimore, Maryland. As a child, she enjoyed dancing, horseback riding, playing the piano, and reading. That love of reading carried on through her entire life. Rather than becoming a teacher as her dad wished, she took business classes after high school. She worked as a secretary in various jobs in her life.
In August of 1944, she married Chuck (Charles) McIntyre. Together, they had four children. During that part of her life, she was a loving wife, a no-nonsense mother and grandmother. (She was teasingly nicknamed “Hard Woman” or “She Who Must Be Obeyed.”) When the great-grandchildren came around, that all changed. Great-grandchildren were meant to be spoiled.
She is survived by three of her four children – Brian McIntyre and wife Paula (Houston), Candy Morris and husband John (Gardendale), Heather Konlande and husband Edward (Houston); her grandchildren – Colleen and Kevin McIntyre, Sean Morris and wife Karen, Ian Morris, Sheena Cavender and husband Drew, Tarna Furr and husband Jay, Cassandra Furr, Kelsey Konlande, Alex Konlande and wife Lindsay; her great-grandchildren – Darrian Morris, Michaella Morris, Gryphon Cavender, and Harris Konlande.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Deirdre Furr, and her husband Charles McIntyre.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 2:00 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Odessa, with inurnment to follow. Arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
