Born in Lajitas, Texas, she always lived life to the fullest. She left the second grade to help support her family, and was the fourth child of her six siblings and had a twin. In her early youth she learned how to raise and care for livestock, and learned to work with what she had from the land. She grew up in Lajitas, Texas, which at the time was a simple pioneer settlement, living off the land. After teaching herself to read and write in both English and Spanish, she lived a life full of laughter and happiness. From cooking delicious meals for her family and friends, to sewing clothing for the children of her family and always making sure everyone had enough to eat. She was an avid bingo player at one time, and played softball for the St. Joseph’s lady’s church team, and was well known for her sense of humor. She met the love of her life, Jose E. Munoz, when she was 18 at a dance but did not see him for a long time after, as he left for the war. After his return they began dating in 1946 and later married on December 27, 1947 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine Texas. Through this beautiful union they were blessed with 6 children. Mage loved working on different sewing projects, from making her famous baby blankets for her grandchildren to making dresses for the younger children in the family. Her favorite meal to make and enjoy was chile con carne and asaderos. In her later years she always had stories to tell of her youth, from her time with her siblings in the mountains, to her recipes for the most delicious foods. Her favorite tv show to watch was Gunsmoke, and was known to tell real life stories of cowboys and life on a ranch, she lovingly referred to the show as “Gunsmoke” and relived her youth through the show. She was a lover of animals, from raising baby lambs, chickens, birds, and dogs; and she loved each and every one.
