Our Beloved Marion Lois “Doris” Tomlin was gathered up in the arms of our Blessed Savior Jesus Christ and taken home to be with our Lord on June 16, 2015 . Doris was blessed to have lived 91 wonderful years.
Doris was born one snowy day on March 25, 1924 to Lois Elizabeth Clardy Hart and Lona “Lonnie” Lee Hart in Sweetwater, Texas. Doris and her brother “Billy Ray” moved to Snyder and attended Snyder Public Schools. In 1939 they moved to Odessa, Texas where she graduated Odessa High School in 1942. She became a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She attended Jolly Beauty College in San Angelo, Texas and became a licensed cosmetologist. After graduation, she returned to Odessa and opened her own beauty shop known as “Doris’s Beauty Shop.
In 1950, Jack Tomlin and Doris were joined in marriage in San Juan Capistrano, California. In 1956, they were blessed with the addition of twins…Gail and Dale their children.
Doris was a long time and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Odessa. She loved to teach Sunday school and was a coordinator for Vacation Bible School at Crescent Park Baptist Church.
Mother had a passion for Art at an early age, specifically Landscape oil painting, and became quite talented. Her home is adorned with many of her beautiful works of art.
Later in life Doris’s passion turned to world travel. This was a natural fit for someone so full of life and energy. Doris spent the next 30 years pursuing her dreams. Her travels took her to Australia, New Zealand, walking with the penguins in Antarctica, and cruised the glaciers of Alaska. She also visited Africa multiple times, England, Italy, extensive travel thorough the Middle Eastern Countries, Spain, Portugal, The Netherlands, Nova Scotia, Canada, traveled on the Trans-Siberian Narrow Gage Railways… Her footprints are all over the world and no doubt touched the lives of many during her travels.
Doris always had a passion for dance. She was member of the “High Stepping Grannies” for many years performing for many of the civic organizations in the Permian Basin. Doris never quit dancing and danced up until she could dance no more. For her 85th and 90th birthday, family and friends helped her celebrate with a trip to Billy Bob’s Dance Hall in Fort Worth Stockyards to dance. She had a great time and was not bashful about asking others to dance and kick her heels up.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Lonnie, her beloved husband Jack, and her beloved brother Billy Ray.
