Melissa radiated life. She was the happiest with her feet in the ocean and a book in her hand. Melissa loved going on vacations with her family or spontaneously taking off for a weekend adventure with her husband, Chet. She introduced him to five-star hotels and had a taste for the finer things in life but found fulfillment in the life she created in Odessa.
Melissa led with intention in all relationships. To her friends, she was always ready to provide a listening ear or fly off to an event. To her parents, Melissa was their precious daughter and supporter. She would always make time to foster uplifting relationships with both Jackie and Mike. Melissa cherished the friendships she built with her parents as an adult and was an unwavering source of love and joy to her mom, dad, and stepmom. To her grandchildren, she was the best “Lomma” even though they lived hours away. Despite the distance, she made sure her grandchildren, nieces and nephews knew they were loved, spoiling them with relish by sending care packages regularly and spontaneous videos of encouragement to brighten their day. Melissa found her purpose in being a Lomma. To her sister, she was a constant light, karaoke partner, and daily confidant. Meagan and Melissa’s laughter was contagious and frequent entertainment to people they were around. To her daughter, she exemplified what it meant to be a good mom. Melissa beamed any time she was able to talk with people about Shelby. Shelby was Melissa’s greatest accomplishment and best friend. To her Chester, Melissa was joy, she was peace, she was adventure, she was home.
There was no way to know Melissa without also knowing the people she loved. Melissa was the other half of many wholes. To all that knew her a world without her seems impossible, but we find comfort in knowing that her soul will always be connected to ours. Melissa had a strong faith in God and knew that we will all see each other again. Melissa was the quintessential wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her unending kindness, animated cheer, and vibrancy for living will be the legacy that we will carry with us always.
A celebration of life for Melissa will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 North Alleghaney, Odessa, TX 79761.
