ODESSA Mildred Doris Rogge, 83, of Odessa passed away Friday, February 14, 2014 at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. She was born August 1, 1930, to Robert Henry and Gladys Rogge in Sweetwater, Texas.
Mildred grew up in Sweetwater and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1951 and received her Masters Degree in Education from HSU in 1957. She taught school for 37 years before retiring in 1988. She also taught 3rd grade Sunday School at First Baptist Church for many years.
Mildred never married and enjoyed playing bridge and traveling all over the world. She took many trips with her sister, Lois Rogge. She was an excellent artist and china painter and even taught painting lessons in her home. She was very actively involved in Delta Kappa Gamma and the Odessa Porcelain Art Club.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Vivian Proffitt, and her nieces, Kenna Hurley, Jana Farley and her husband Darrin and Kara Forbess and her husband Scott. Mildred was very fond of her great-nieces and great-nephews, Danae Adams and her husband Kyle, Adam Farley, Brian Farley and his wife Christine, Chad Farley, Amy Farley, Daniel Forbess and Brianne Forbess. Mildred once stated that her family kept her life full.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Lois Rogge.
Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Monday, February 17, 2014. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Byron McWilliams officiating.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Compass Hospice.
