With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Nerea Uranga Vasquez, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She was called to her eternal resting place on January 13, 2025, at the age of 87. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will always be remembered and a void her family cannot fill.
Nerea was born in Fort Stockton, Texas, to Faustino and Adela Uranga on May 12, 1937. She was one of five siblings: Erminio Uranga (†), Paula Markas, Diana Feigenbaum, and Rosemary Corbin. She loved them dearly and often spoke of them with fondness.
Nerea was married to the love of her life, Robert J. Vasquez, for 65 wonderful years. She, too, was the love of his life. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on family, creating a lifetime of cherished memories. Nerea was a devoted mother to Anthony, Michael, Anita, and Benjamin; they were her pride and joy. As a devout Catholic, Nerea was a dedicated Confraternity of Christian Doctrine member, helping prepare children for their First Communion. She also served in jail ministry and participated faithfully in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Nerea was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Third Order of St. Francis. She possessed a beautiful and kind soul and enjoyed sewing, knitting, and watching her favorite TV shows in her spare time. Nerea lived life to the fullest, and above all, she cherished spending time with family and friends.
Although Nerea is no longer with us, she will forever live in our hearts and memories. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Vasquez; her sons, Anthony Vasquez, Michael Vasquez, and Benjamin Vasquez and his wife, Chris; her daughter, Anita, and her husband, Yancy Nunez; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Francis Militscher, Maggie Uranga (†Erminio), and Mary Vasquez (†Fermin); and brother-in-law, Rob Corbin (Rosemary).
On behalf of Robert J. Vasquez and his family, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported us during this difficult time. We are eternally grateful for your love, prayers, and support in the days ahead.
