Norman was born in Moran, Texas on September 23, 1938 to Basil B. And Lela E. Hitt. He graduated from Moran high school and attended Tarleton state and Abilene Christian University. He moved to Odessa for summer work and that's where he met his wife of 49 years Lou Ann Kirk.
After they married, Norman joined the Air Force to fly as that was his lifelong dream. He had swept hangers cleaned planes and anything else he could do to get flying time. Unfortunately the Air Force discovered he was very talented in electronics and kept him there. Since he was not flying he had no interest in staying with them and received an honorable discharge after four years of service. He once again began hustling to do anything to fly.
When Norman received his license he began working for the armored service flying to Lubbock and Houston every night. He continued his education flying any plane he could and started doing airplane sales in Oklahoma and Florida for exposure to more planes. Norman moved back to Odessa to fly for Echols Tool, Area Builders, Clyde Construction then flying for Perry Gas. His next endeavor was to El Paso to fly larger planes and then to Australia where he lived for a year. He loved his time there. From there he went to Belgium, flying all over Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He had an amazing career traveling the world in his 707 and was known as the Texan at many International Airport where they loved his humor and accent. He loved showing off Texas and his wife's cooking to his international friends that came to visit. He truly lived his dream of flying and traveling the world.
Norman was not only a talented pilot but an amazing woodworker as well. He could build or fix almost anything and both of his daughters were very thankful for inheriting his mechanical gene. He was very involved in all their events from coaching, being a chaperone, to being the president of the Odessa Aquatic Club when his daughters swam. He was the fun dad always up for fishing, the park, a picnic or kite flying which he used to teach his daughters about flight. He had many lessons but the two that stand out are always measure twice and cut once and do things right the first time.
Norman is preceded in death by his wife Lou Ann, parents Basil and Lela Hitt and his daughter Leslee Ann Hitt. He survived by his daughter Leesa Hitt.
